The Holiday House was inspired by the architectural work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. His well known design of Hill House in Scotland inspired the exterior features of this home. The result is a handsome facade featuring detailed windows, custom paver window sills, parapet brick walls, and striking chimney profile that make the Mackintosh plan highly unique.

Inside, the floor plan appeals to all ages. The light-filled home sits on a corner lot with views of Hampstead Farms, neighborhood parks, and the Town Square. The three bedrooms are all large and open, and the formal courtyard is private and serene.

The three major elements of a good kitchen — stove, sink, refrigerator — were the starting point for us. We placed them in close proximity to each other, with enough work space in between. From there we created a calm, neutral kitchen that ties in with the Holiday House theme of "elegant comfort." Custom cabinets illustrate the fine detail and craftsmanship in the house, and the generous island is ideal for relaxed family meals in the kitchen. The beautiful items that you want to display can sit out on the marble countertops, while the others can be tucked into the storage found throughout the kitchen. It is a truly functional space.

Looking at the main room overall, we did the whole "kitchen-dining-living thing." That's what people want these days. The kitchen has become a big, multifunctional space that engages the rest of the house. The husband can be cooking while the wife reads by the fireplace. And guests want to be part of the action and see what's coming out of the oven. So we created a plush, comfortable living room and dining area that lets everyone join in the fun.

The trick is this: if your going to do something, do it right. Which in this case means beautiful, upholstered furniture that will last the test of time. Nothing small or minimal. Large pieces will make a space feel bigger. So the large antique drop-leaf dining table and high back chairs set the stage for gorgeous holiday meals. The extended sofa and large reclaimed-wood coffee table frame the fireplace and Christmas tree. You want to sit down and never leave.

We believe everything you touch should exemplify quality. At Mercer Home, we focus on creating homes that reflect both value & the personalities of our buyers. So we insist on quality hardware, elegant trim & millwork, handmade cabinets, beautiful lighting, and quality flooring. These are our standards, and the effect is one of lasting quality and a unique home. Check out the oil-rubbed bronze hardware, the hardware floors stained on-site, and the striking light fixtures.

Like Hampstead itself, this house is a mix of elements. A new house filled with antique pieces. New construction combined with reclaimed materials. A mixture of texture, colors, and appeal for all ages. Everything done with a sense of the unexpected. At the end of the day, it's a fairly traditional home filled with the conveniences of modern life.

Hampstead Is More Than Just a House

Like what you see in the 2009 Holiday House? We hope you do, and we want you to know that Hampstead is about more than just a house. It is a way of life. A community inspired by a holistic way of life, meaning everything you need can be found right here in your neighborhood. It is about family, community, beauty, convenience, and sustainability.

Where else can a Holiday House feature honey & produce grown at an organic community farm, or natural elements found in the community preserves? How about bread and goodies baked daily at the neighborhood restaurants and wine from the market? Combining homes with places to work, walk to school & church, and play, Hampstead offers a well-rounded community not found anywhere else.
